Journaling to Build Knowledge About Nature
by Lisa Davis

Melanie recently learned that the most commonly seen ladybug in our area is the invasive Asian lady beetle. She made a brochure for identifying the the native and invasive lady bugs with helpful information and tips. View the brochure (PDF)
Nature journaling helps you to observe the world in more depth and remember your field observations that you wanted to research after you get home. Journaling also serves to refresh your memory on what you learn in workshops, documenting big trips, and more. Lisa has compiled great tips, suggestions, links, and resources for nature journaling.  View Lisa's 1-page document (PDF)

Creating a Bog Rain Garden
by Alok Kharey

Have a frustratingly persistent wet spot in your yard? Turn it into a bog rain garden! Master Naturalist Alok Kharey did just that in his yard and now enjoys beautiful native aquatic and marsh plants, such as Pickerelweed, Sharpwing monkeyflower, and even pitcher plants! He designed a brochure with instructions on how to make one with sand and sphagnum moss that will create the right amount of oxygen, nutrients, and water for these plants to thrive.
